Iron Gate Estate
Iron Gate Kitchen
Pokolbin, Hunter Valley
Iron Gate Estate Kitchen marks a new chapter for the Hunter Valley winery, a contemporary restaurant extension that reinterprets the site’s original Spanish-inspired architecture through a modern, sensory lens. The design is both homage and evolution. It honours the estate’s Mediterranean roots while embracing the clarity and refinement of contemporary Australian design. At the heart of the space, an undulating brick ceiling becomes a sculptural gesture, a rhythmic play of light and shadow that evokes the warmth of traditional craftsmanship reimagined for today. The palette is tactile and layered: hand-finished timbers, burnished metals, textured plasters and terrazzo benchtops that invite touch and catch the changing light throughout the day. Every detail is considered to engage the senses. The acoustics softened by curvature, the filtered glow of natural light enhancing the geometry, the subtle contrast between raw and polished finishes. The result is a series of interconnected spaces that feel grounded yet elevated, intimate yet expansive. Iron Gate Estate Kitchen stands as a dialogue between past and present, where heritage meets innovation, and the spirit of the original architecture is not simply preserved but reawakened with a contemporary soul.
